DOING RESEARCH
While I talked with several lawyers, I did a little research into Flint bankruptcy laws. They didn't seem much different than any other place, and I thought that I could talk with an attorney and decided which type of bankruptcy to file. Meanwhile, I was fighting off the creditors. Every phone call, it seemed, was someone calling about money I owed them. This killed me. I was always so good about my bills, never behind. The business had a sterling credit rating, and so did I personally. But I had gotten over extended, had expanded right when business fell off at the restaurant. It was like somebody flipped a switch. One Saturday morning I came in and the place was empty. I just figured it was the weather. We were having the first nice day we had had in months, so I was guessing that people wanted to be outside. When I came in on Sunday and saw the same thing, then I was worried. There had never been a Sunday when we weren't busy. Never! I checked around town, and there was no new place that had opened, and no great specials being run at other restaurants. I don't know what happened. There were no additional layoffs, either. The bad thing was, that I was expanding. I had just purchased a restaurant on the other side of town.
