HOMETOWN HEROES

My wife drug me to a Chinese auction fund raiser held by her office and I wasn’t having very much luck finding anything that interested me enough to bid on, until I strolled past a four pack of MLB tickets to the Cubs game of your choice – home or away!  I had immediate visions of trekking out to San Francisco to see them battle the Giants, or down to Houston to see the division rival Astros, maybe even a trip to Philadelphia or New York to see the Phillies or the Mets.  I’d never normally plan for a trip like this on my own because the cost would probably be outlandish, but the knowledge that the money is going to a good cause seems to be encouraging me a little along with the desire to catch a Cubs road game.  I wrote a pretty large number next to my name on the bid list, probably much larger than I had to, to actually win.  There weren’t a whole lot of sports fans here, but now that the idea was panning out in my head I wanted to make darn sure that I was going to win.  It was still early in the evening so I had plenty of time to pace around contemplating what game I was actually going to attend after I won the item.
