PROUD MAN
My father had always been a proud man and so it really hurt to have to watch him filing bankruptcy. He had been working at this factory for years and then it had to close. I was really young at the time and didn’t understand why, but it had something to do with its parent company changing its line of work and outsourcing all its factory work overseas. While my father had saved a lot of money over the years and took out some loans, in the end, all the bills started mounting up and he had no choice but to file. It was a hard thing for him to do, but he still did it. He even sat me down and tried to explain what was going on and why we were going to live with my grandparents for a while. Eventually, my father picked up a job working at a grocery store, but he was the low man on the totem pole and barely made money even though he worked insane double shifts and did a lot of the hard work. Technically, with his level of experience, he should have been a manager, but he had no leverage to negotiate with his new employers and desperately needed some type of job and income. He did have a family. And I admire my father because he did work his way up into management at that grocery, but it was never easy.
